Kruger National Park Census Count 2003 ...
There are almost 150 species of mammals in the Kruger National park, about 450 bird species and a vast assortment of plants, trees shrubs and smaller animals. Together they make up a real life garden of eden about 5 hrs drive from the city centre of Johannesburg.
In August 2004 Dr Ian Whyte counted the elephants in the Kruger National Park as he has done for 19 years. This count is made in August over a 2 week period when the bush is at its thinnest (so the elephants can be seen more easily). In 2004 there were 11,454 slightly down on the 2003 elephant count
