The KuduzelaŽ a new type of Vuvuzela Horn Announced for World Cup 2010

In the week ending July 19th a company called Kudu Kudu Manufacturing in conjunction with SANParks (South African National parks... includes Kruger National Park) and FNB (First National Bank) announced the development of a new vuvuzela type horn called the KuduzelaŽ

The vuvuzela has for many years been a symbol of the passion and enthusiasm South African have for the love of soccer.

The recent FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 has fueled demand for the vuvuzela and its variations. Countries around the world are now embracing the unique South African instrument.

This new KuduzelaŽ is in the shape of the Kudu horn... the Kudu is a large antelope present in many of SANParks national parks including the Kruger National Park.

Kuduzela vuvuzela type horn from kudu kuduThe KuduzelaŽ differs in many respects from the traditional vuvuzela with one significant differentiating feature apart from  the shape is the fact that the mouthpiece of the KuduzelaŽ is on the side.

Dr David Mabunda Chief Executive of SANParks believes the kudu horn has been a traditional musical instrument of African communities for many years. The Kudu horn has traditionally been used to summon warriors to battle as well as to announce royal occasions according to Dr Mabunda.

The KuduzelaŽ has been granted intellectual property rights protection. The manufacturer of the KuduzelaŽ is heavily involved in producing components for the automotive industry and saw an opportunity to develop and market an alternative to the traditional vuvuzela so loved by soccer fans in South Africa.

The manufacturing process involves injection moulding plastic granules and uses the maximum possible amount of recycled plastic to reduce the impact of plastics on the environment.

Another innovative approach has been the willingness of FNB to ensure that 6.24% of the cost of making the KuduzelaŽ is made available through SANParks for its "Kids in the Park" project.

FNB are offering 150,000 lucky winners the opportunity of owning a KuduzelaŽ if they make 3 or more pre-paid airtime purchases per month. You may have seen the full page ad in the Sunday Times of July 19th.
