South Africa has a lot to tell about each of its nine provinces because of what has happened in the past and is still happening. Each province is dominated by a specific language in general and people want to make a cultural mark to show what they represent.
Some provinces are fortunate to have more natural resources than others, and kwaZulu is such a province
Ulundi kwaZulu Natal
ULundi was the former Capital city of kwaZulu referred to by the Zulu people as a homeland during the apartheid era in South Africa. ULundi is known for the biggest administration complex in the country and the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini resides there. King Goodwill Zwelithini of the Zulu nation was born in July 1948 at kwaNongoma in kwaZulu Natal.
He was then appointed as King at a traditional ceremony in 1971 following the death of his father.
Pietermaritzburg
Now known as the Capital city of kwaZulu Natal.
When the British arrived at the uMsindusi river, they named Pietermaritzburg their own, and gave this name after the first trek leaders Pieter Retief and Gerrit Maritz ( in the north of Pretoria one of the main streets is also named after Gerrit Maritz).
The British took over the town and build their own small empire there. To this day their mark and influence is still visible through the buildings which still stand.
kwaZulu can be split into 4 areas or regions ...
Durban ... a modern coastal sub tropical city and major african port. It is the country's premier beach resort if this is measured by the number of visitors .. the warm Indian ocean all year round makes it an ideal "warm" holiday resort.

Natal South Small "south coast" towns like Amanzimtoti, Umkomaas, Port Shepstone dot the entire coastline making the south coast a favourite holiday area.
